OT SUPERVISION:

Sandra is an occupational therapist with experience across community health, rehabilitation and school settings, working with clients of a wide range of ages.  She now brings her expertise in paediatrics, along with strong analytical skills and a keen interest in research and health promotion, to other OTs through clinical supervision.

Her supervision supports occupational therapists who are new to paediatrics, as well as more experienced OTs who want international access to OT techniques and perspectives beyond their own training. Sessions are strictly clinical: case discussion, clinical reasoning, assessment and intervention planning, working with families, and applying current evidence to everyday practice. All caseload discussions are anonymous, so client confidentiality is protected at every step.

Sandra works with both individual OTs and private practices. Practices can book supervision for several therapists together, giving their team consistent clinical support at a lower cost per therapist. Individual OTs can book directly for their own professional growth.

Every supervision includes:

  • A written log of each session, which OTs can keep for their professional records. This is especially useful for US-trained OTs who need to document their supervision and continuing competence (NBCOT requirement).

  • International, evidence-based resources, selected to be recent and regularly updated.

Sessions are available online for OTs in Germany, France and beyond.

Why supervision matters

Paediatric occupational therapy is complex. Children's needs rarely fit neatly into one category, families bring their own cultures, stresses and expectations, and the evidence base keeps changing. Research on clinical supervision in the health professions consistently links it to stronger clinical reasoning, more confident practice, better quality of care, and lower stress and burnout, with the greatest benefit for therapists early in their careers or moving into a new area of practice.

Supervision also builds resilience. A regular space to reflect on difficult cases, talk through uncertainty and get support helps OTs stay steady, motivated and connected to why they chose this work.

For private practices, this matters for retention. Therapists who feel supported and keep growing are more likely to stay. Offering supervision to your team helps you keep skilled OTs, reduce the cost and disruption of turnover, and maintain consistent quality of care for your clients.

Yet in many settings, supervision isn't built into the system. Once OTs are qualified, they are often expected to find their own way, especially in private practice, where there may be no senior colleague to turn to. Where supervision isn't available, OTs have a unique opportunity to take the initiative, seek it out for themselves and become active professionals in their own professional development and resilience. Seeking supervision isn't a sign of lacking skill; it's a sign of professional responsibility. By investing in regular, structured supervision, OTs protect the quality of their work, their own wellbeing and, most importantly, the children and families they serve.
